Segura Viudas continues to make progress in sustainability by installing solar panels
Segura Viudas, the prestigious winery of cavas and wines belonging to the Freixenet Group, in line with its commitment to sustainability and renewable energies, has completed the installation of a park of photovoltaic panels. The logistics warehouse in San Cugat Sesgarrigues has also completed the installation of photovoltaic panels. This concludes the first phase of an energy efficiency project that will involve the entire Group.
Specifically, in the case of Segura Viudas, the installation will generate 384 MWh of solar energy per year, equivalent to 13% of the total energy consumption estimated for the period of one year. As for the logistics warehouse, the installation of the panels will generate 142 MWh per year, equivalent to 59% of consumption. This advance is another step forward in the sustainable strategy of Freixenet Group, which had already been purchasing energy from 100% renewable sources in all its plants since 2017.
It should be noted that, this 2024, Freixenet has obtained for the first time the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection certification. This recognition, developed by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), is the evolution of the Wineries for Climate Protection seal, which now, in addition to the environmental dimension, also evaluates aspects of social, economic and governance sustainability. For its part, Segura Viudas has revalidated it for the fourth consecutive time.
Freixenet Group stands out as a company committed to the environment, as evidenced by the fact that it was the first company in the sector to obtain ISO 14,001 certification in 1999, among many other awards in this field. In this way, as a world leader in quality sparkling wines, it reaffirms its commitment to the highest standards of sustainability in the production of Cava and advances in its contribution to the energy transition.
