International Women’s Day: the winemakers of Grupo Freixenet
On the #InternacionalWomensDay we want to make visible the oenologists of the Freixenet Group and recognize their great talent, deep values and passion for the world of wine. Meet Meritxell Parera, Pilar Urpí and Yoko Sato, and their important role in the creation and production of our wines and cavas of the highest quality. Thank you for your work and dedication, and for being a role model for the next generations of women and winemakers.
Pilar Urpí
Winemaker
“Dolores Sala, the truth is that from hearing about her so much I think I almost met her. He had to take charge of his company and he did.”
“I remember a lot that when I joined in 1987 we were a total of 30 people and there was only me as a woman, and I always felt like one more.”
“Those that go up come already very powerful, very strong. They do not blush according to what situations. They have already passed this phase.”
Yoko Sato
UCSA Laboratory Manager
“Just looking at the Freixenet Group, the technical departments of Laboratory, Quality Control and Environment, there is a very important presence of women.”
“There is interest on the part of women in winemaking. So, over time, I think there will be more women.”
Meritxell Parera
Winemaker of Segura Viudas and Responsible for the Purchase of Grapes for Grupo Freixenet
“The fact of thinking about what I have now and how it will come out in a while, because that part is curiosity is what has caught my attention to dedicate myself to this sector and this profession.”
“When I started in family parties, they called me ‘the girl’. My nickname was “the girl.” I, in quotation marks, faced a little to say enough is enough! I have a name, and my name is Meritxell.”
“More and more girls, women, are studying this part of the trade.”
