Grupo Freixenet, world leader in quality sparkling wines, will be present at the fourth edition of Barcelona Wine Week, the most important international wine event in Spain, which brings together hundreds of wineries. The company will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the launch of Cordón Negro, its most universal and iconic cava, with a party at the fair. Cordón Negro, Freixenet’s most universal cava, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024 as one of Freixenet’s most emblematic cavas, characterized by the matte black of its iconic frosted bottle. Known internationally as “The Black Bottle” since its launch in 1974, it began to stand out especially in the United States, the first country where it became number 1 as an imported traditional method sparkling wine in 1983. It was a true revolution in the sector due to its modern invoice, sophisticated appearance and innovative production process, being the first cava to ferment at a controlled temperature to enhance the aromas and freshness, thus adapting to the tastes of the consumer. It has been recognized on numerous occasions by renowned international competitions, including the medal for best cava in the world awarded by The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships in 2021 and 2022, a prestigious competition headed by the renowned British wine writer and critic Tom Stevenson.

The Freixenet Group is also presenting several new products at the fair. Freixenet’s Elyssia range is expanded with the launch of the new Elyssia Brut Nature, a fresh cava with an elegant nose that stands out for its aromas of white flowers, ripe fruit and a touch of honey. In the mouth it is round, balanced and elegant, ideal for gastronomic pairings thanks to its versatility.

For its part, Segura Viudas will present its new range of premium wines “Homenaje”, consisting of three DO Cataluña wines: white, rosé and red; to be launched in the spring of 2024. These wines are highly gastronomic and focused on the restaurant industry.

The Monólogo range of wines begins a new phase with the relaunch of a renewed image, with a modern and contemporary style, for its DOC Rioja and DO Rueda wines. In addition, the brand is launching Monólogo Ribera del Duero for the restaurant channel, thus expanding its portfolio to include one of Spain’s most prestigious wine regions.

Those attending the event will also be able to discover the premium champagne brand Alfred Gratien, which presents its renewed and elegant image for its entire range, coinciding with the 160th anniversary of the Maison Champagne Alfred Gratien.  This prestigious brand is known for its respect for tradition and craftsmanship in the production of its Champagnes, which are characterized by their elegance, finesse, good persistence and vinification in wood.

In this way, Grupo Freixenet, as the world’s leading brand of sparkling wines, consolidates its position as one of the main international wine companies present at the Barcelona Wine Week, with the clear desire to promote and further boost the wine and sparkling wine sector.
