Freixenet and Segura Viudas renew the Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle seal for their commitment to sustainability
- Freixenet and Segura Viudas are committed to a model of sustainable wine tourism and respectful of the environment
- The commitment adapts to the post-Covid19 era and continues to promote the Safe Travels seal that establishes protocols for safe travel
Freixenet and Segura Viudas, emblematic wineries of the Freixenet Group, have recently renewed the “Biosphere” badge of the Commitment to Sustainable Tourism Destination Barcelona program, in recognition of their commitment to sustainable and quality tourism. Biosphere is based on a working methodology around the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, it is a seal of the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR) that certifies sustainable, voluntary and independent tourism. The two Freixenet Group wineries achieved it for the first time in 2018 and have managed to renew it every year since then.
The seal certifies that the wineries meet the requirements of the “Biosphere Destination” standard and that they successfully apply the will to promote careful tourism on the part of tour operators, as well as the wishes of visitors to be able to travel with maximum respect for the environment. The wine tourism offer of the centennial Cavas Freixenet focuses on the magical world of bubbles and the fascinating process of making cava. For its part, the Heredad Segura Viudas is committed to the discovery of the vineyards and the biodiversity that surrounds the winery within the framework of respect for the roots.
The objectives pursued by this certificate are to incorporate new criteria for sustainability, maintaining aspects of tourism quality, and to give a guarantee to tourists in terms of sustainable management, environmental conservation, cultural protection, socioeconomic development and customer satisfaction. In the same way, with the Biosphere seal and under the umbrella of the Barcelona Destination, a global brand plan is undertaken to promote and project internationally the Biosphere certified destinations to which both consumers and tourists are currently sensitive and show interest.
Every year then, and with the aim of renewing the seal, Freixenet and Segura Viudas will pursue a guarantee of economic, sociocultural and environmental balance in terms of wine tourism, satisfying the current needs of visitors and providing significant benefits for the entity itself, for society and the environment, protecting and improving future prospects.
