Freixenet Group celebrates 25 years of obtaining the ISO 14001 environmental management system

Freixenet Group celebrates the 25th anniversary of obtaining the ISO 14001 certification for environmental management systems, a milestone that made it the first cava production company to obtain it in 1999. This certification, one of the most recognized and valued, endorses the company’s commitment to innovation and the reduction of environmental impact in all its operations.

On the occasion of this anniversary, AENOR, a leading entity in building trust, has recognised the Freixenet Group’s track record in environmental sustainability within the framework of Barcelona Wine Week, the major international event for Spanish wine. The recognition ceremony was attended by Jordi Martín, Director of AENOR in Catalonia; Marga de Rosselló, Partner of Sustainability and Climate Change at PwC Spain; Pedro Ferrer, Co-CEO and Vice President of Freixenet Group; Josep Palau, CTO of Freixenet Group, and Gloria Martí, Head of Sustainability and Environment of Freixenet Group.

Josep Palau, CTO of Freixenet Group, commented: “In the 90s we started with projects based on minimisation at source, we evolved and, when we reached a level of maturity in our processes, we began to collaborate with PwC and AENOR to implement the ISO 14001 environmental management system with the commitment of the management. This commitment is maintained today within the framework of our spirit of continuous improvement.”

Gloria Martí, Head of Sustainability and Environment at Freixenet Group, said: “ISO 14001 certification has been a key part of our environmental strategy, allowing us to optimise processes and minimise our impact on the environment. At Freixenet Group we believe that sustainability is a continuous commitment, which is why we continue to innovate. Currently our commitment is focused on reducing our emissions, and promoting more responsible and decarbonised mobility, among other projects”.

For his part, the director of AENOR in Catalonia, Jordi Martín, stressed: “We would like to congratulate the Freixenet Group for being a benchmark company, not only in its sector, but also internationally. 25 years ago very few companies talked about sustainability and the commitment to the environment has really been promoted by the company as its own project”. Finally, PwC Spain’s sustainability and climate change partner, Marga de Rosselló, highlighted Freixenet’s pioneering role in 1999, when it committed to environmental management as a driver of an integrated vision of sustainability throughout the organisation.

Freixenet Group, committed to the environment and the environment

Since obtaining this certification, the Freixenet Group has maintained a proactive approach to environmental management by implementing solutions to optimise resources, reduce consumption, minimise waste and reduce the environmental impact of its activity.

With these milestones, the Freixenet Group reinforces its position as a benchmark in sustainability, innovation and good environmental practices, consolidating its leadership in the wine sector with a vision of a responsible and sustainable future.
