Freixenet Group, recognized for its leadership in sustainable transport at the International Mobility Awards

Freixenet Group, a world leader in quality sparkling wines, has been distinguished with the ‘Private Company-Large Company Award’ for its initiatives in the field of sustainable transport at the 4th edition of the International Mobility Awards. These awards are organised by Companies for Sustainable Mobility, with the support of Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible, Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico,  Fundación CONAMA and the Royal Academy of Engineering. The recognition to Grupo Freixenet was presented by José Antonio Santano, Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, and collected by Cristina Durán and Gloria Martí, heads of Logistics and Sustainability of Grupo Freixenet respectively.

The International Mobility Awards distinguish good practices and initiatives in mobility, both in the public and private sectors, highlighting success stories such as Freixenet Group. In 2023, the company started an intermodal transport project in Europe, which combines road and rail transport and results in a reduction in CO2 emissions of between 59% and 75% on trips to Germany, Poland and Belgium. In this way, Freixenet Group becomes a pioneer in Spain in Cava’s rail transport, given the need to promote and bet on rail as an essential transport option to contribute to the decarbonization of the sector.

Another project that Grupo Freixenet started in 2023 is the collaboration with the multinational energy company Repsol to contribute to the decarbonization of freight transport through the use of renewable fuels produced from waste, such as used cooking oil, and which reduces CO2 emissions by 85% compared to the mineral fuel it replaces. Currently, Freixenet Group makes part of the journeys between its headquarters, located in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Barcelona, and Madrid with trucks powered by Repsol’s renewable fuel. By participating in this project, Freixenet Group achieves a double objective: to decarbonize the economy and to implement circular economy models that reduce its environmental footprint.

In the words of Cristina Duran, Director of Logistics at Grupo Freixenet, “At Grupo Freixenet, we have always been committed to innovation and sustainability in our logistics operations. This award, which reaffirms our export vocation and our leadership in sustainable mobility within the wine sector, is a testament to our team’s hard work and our dedication to optimizing our supply chains in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner. We will remain committed to excellence in logistics as we continue to move towards a more planet-friendly future.”
